Weekend Rewind Part 2 of 3

This is just for you Karl:

Tonight went extremely well. Jon and Kyle took care of everything for me. I just had to mess with the lights during worship and prayer. I had enough of being cooped up in that room today so I went out into the town center and socialized with Tim and Tom. Helped some people who were using the UnPlugged venue, and de-stressed.

That is all…

Weekend Rewind Pt. 1

Okay Folks, here’s another addition of the Weekend Rewind:

@betterthanblank becoming a master at MS Word...so he says. on TwitPic

Typical Saturday service. Karl played guitar while leading with his wife, Jaimianne.

The sounded so fantastic! They sung a combination of Christmas and worship songs. Karl I know you idle my blogging and therefor are reading so let me say this: You and Jamianne compliment each other not just off the stage, but on the stage. Your voices work together, and you’re cool to hang with too. :-) Chase played Bass, and Rich played the drums. [Read more →]

Weekend Rewind – Part 2 – November 30th, 2008

Today was such an excellent day! I didn’t end up playing Bass which was a good things since I’ve never really played before and I didn’t know any of the songs. Well how to play them anyway. I feel that Bass would be easier for me to pick up then guitar since I can think about one note at a time pretty good. Ha ha…

Anyway, It was Jon and I for tech with Richard Oberle bailing us out for our last Service! Thanks man! Jon was really good today. Didn’t miss one cue! Dude, he’s rocking it. Richard stepped right up to the plate taking the camera while I futzed with lights and checked out our new toy. I’ll cover that in a minute. Andre ran sound even though he’s not feeling 100% yet. Dude, I love your tenacity for serving. Not only just making a point to show up when you don’t feel that hot, but still wanting to perfect the art of mixing the FOH to the best it can be. Man, that is so awesome! [Read more →]

Karl Verkade Interviewed???

So, I was reading my reader tonight when I came across Karl’s blog. He mentioned he was interviewed by Chris over at Behind the Mixer. So I clicked the linky and was very impressed with what I read.

Karl is a very talented “Lead Worshiper” and a great friend. If you’re a tech team/Sound Guy/Worship Team person, you should take a look. Here’s the interview. If you really don’t care about guitars, sound, or otherwise, just go and read. One of Karl’s other talents is writing.

There is one tiny little thing that I disagree with Karl on though. The sound guy is not just a member of the worship team, he is a member of the tech team. With that being said, the Tech Team is not just the Tech Team, they are part of the worship team and vice verse. Folks, we all work together to achieve the same result. Some of us just focus on different areas IMHO. (That’s In My Humble Opinion for the unhip.)

I used to run Sound, now I’m a tech director. I miss running sound, and there are times I just want to reach over and adjust something on the board. There are times I do. Most of the time I shouldn’t.  Being a techy at heart (and employed as one by the US Government), I sometimes disagree with typical “band” members. “It sounds better this way” in regards to how it’s hooked up. But one thing that I’ve learned, a happy band is a good band. So rock with what you got.

Okay, that’s ramblngs on that. I love ya Karl. I’m glad to see you get some noteriety as it is WELL deserved!

Karl on Wordress!?!?

YES! My friend Karl has made the move to wordpress. So all you guitar junkies, worship junkies, and people who read go give him some love here!
